In the reputable IPE (Investment & Pension Europe) award gala held in Vienna, Hansa Pension Fund K3 was selected as the best fixed income pension fund in Europe.

Over 300 pension funds from 30 different countries participated in the selection, stated Hansabank.

Robert Kitt, chairman of the management board of Hansa Investment Funds, considered such recognition to be extraordinary, as virtually all European pension funds invest in bonds to some extent.

“It is significant that Hansa Pension Fund K3 proved to be the best in the all-European competition. The IPE award is certainly an acknowledgement of not only the work of our fund managers, but of the pension systems of Estonia and the other Baltic States as a whole,” Kitt said.

IPE awards are country-based (16 countries plus the Central and Eastern European region) and by themes (12 different categories). Since it is mainly an event intended for Western-European pension funds, then in Central and Eastern Europe the country-based awards are replaced with the CEE regional award. The themed awards are all-European and they are granted in different categories related to investment, for example investments in equities and investments in bonds.

In addition, from among different categories four silver awards are selected for the best corporate pension fund, the best industry-wide pension fund, the best public pension fund and the best small (< BEUR 1) pension fund. The crown of the award gala is the announcement of the gold award or the best European pension fund, which this time was the Belgian Pensioenfonds KBC.

The Estonian pension fund was the only one from Eastern Europe which was awarded this year. Only the Croatian pension fund AZ was recognised last year.

IPE Awards, which was commenced in 2001, is an annual event where the entire pension funds industry of Europe meets and which also sets the standards for managing European pension funds. During the event, the best of the best pension funds and their managers are recognised.

Nearly 230 000 people have invested their pension assets in Hansa Pension Fund K3.
